FOREWORD TO THE FIRST EDITION

Paragraph 3 of 8

It is important that we remain anonymous because we are too few, at present to handle the overwhelming number of personal appeals which may result from this publication. Being mostly business or professional folk, we could not well carry on our occupations in such an event. We would like it understood that our alcoholic work is an avocation.

Kira's Comment:

Who you see here, what you hear here, when you leave here, let it stay here.

Anonymity is best practiced in my life by focusing more on the message of solutions in recovery, and focusing less on the problems and who's sharing about them. When sharing stories, or things I have learned from others I will often omit personal details like names or things that could identify the people involved.

Today I am comfortable with people knowing I live a life in recovery using the 12 step programs available to me, as well as friendship, therapy, spirituality and a healthy diet. I am in no way a spokesperson or an example of the program. My life in sobriety has far less embarrassing moments than my drinking career ever did! I'm comfortable talking about my past, my experiences, and what it's like now. I am not comfortable discussing who I see or what other say in meetings or private conversations with me.

Please do your best to keep our share focused on the solution as it pertains to living a sober life using the tools found in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.  If you have significant life problems, or situations that you would like advice on it may be best to seek private support from persons you know directly.

The Alcoholics Anonymous Book, also known as The Big Book of AA, has come to be known as a basic text for life. Many people have read the messages in this book, discussed them with other like minded individuals, and put the suggestions to use in their own lives.   On this site we will walk through the Big Book together. One paragraph at a time, every day until we have completed the book. This will give us time to read, and learn and practice these principles in all of our affairs.
